Like Asians, ancient European, knew football in different froms .
In Greece:
In Greece there was a football game similar to a Roman one called "Harbastom". The teams used to compete on a rectangular play ground that had borders and center, marked with lines. To score goals players had to place a little ball in the other side of the playground, designed for the opponent team.
That game was called "Ibiskiros", Greeks played it for 800 years.
In English islands:
There are plenty of proves which attest that similar football games to the modern one had been practiced along the history. But the relevant one about football in its nearts form to nowadays one. Was in England, between the eighth and ninth centuries.
At firts the game was violent, also players' number was not limited. People played on fields, roads and streets. They kicked the ball and their competitors as well.
Some reckon that football game in England started with ordinary people.Whereas other assume that it flourished in France. Especially in northern parts, then was brought to England.
In brief football game developed for more than 1000 years in various forms, till it reached England, in its current modern form.
